L’Islanda è uno dei paesi che chi ama la fotografia sogna di visitare, Sergio Perez il suo sogno islandese lo ha tirato fuori dal cassetto e lo ha realizzato, è partito con un gruppo discovery di Avventure nel Mondo nell’agosto del 2015 ed ha scoperto questo luogo ostile e incantevole macinando chilometri, passo dopo passo. L’Islanda è il paese meno “densamente” popolato d’Europa, è una terra pura e incontaminata in cui la natura non si è fatta piegare dall’uomo ed ha mantenuto una sua identità forte e rigida, è una terra ai confini del mondo, spigolosa, fredda e primordiale, ma al contempo anche molto affascinante e misteriosa.
L’Islanda è l’unica parte emersa della dorsale Atlantica, è una terra solitaria ed estrema che presenta una marcata attività vulcanica e geotermica, il territorio è coperto per il 10% da ghiacciai e ci sono circa 200 vulcani attivi. Il paese è un continuo alternarsi di deserto lavico, montagne e ghiacciai, pozze di fango bollenti e zampillanti soffioni di geyser in cui c’è poco spazio per l’uomo e per le comodità. L’Islanda racconta la storia del mondo, Terra, Acqua, Fuoco e Oceano coesistono in una natura ribelle e incontaminata, unica al mondo.
Sergio si è immerso in questa terra cupa, ermetica e meravigliosa e, zaino in spalla, ha affrontato terreni lavici, ghiaccio e neve, ha vissuto la sua avventura con la macchina fotografica al collo per raccontare la sua Islanda e portarne un pezzettino con sé. L’Islanda richiede sforzo, pazienza, determinazione e spirito di adattamento, è una terra ostile, con pochi trasporti, strade prevalentemente sterrate e poche strutture, che necessita di essere scoperta, poco a poco, chilometro dopo chilometro. Come tutte le cose preziose non si concede facilmente, ma è pronta a mostrarsi in tutta la sua immensa unicità a chi sa amarla e rispettarla. Sergio ha visitato posti che i turisti vedono solo da lontano, luoghi che i fotografi a volte trascurano in favore di altre attrazioni, ha vissuto l’Islanda da viaggiatore, si è lasciato cullare dal vento, bagnare dalla pioggia, ha attraversato i sentieri innevati e si è riempito gli occhi con l’immensità del cielo e dell’oceano.
Le foto di Sergio raccontano la sua Islanda, la sua avventura, il suo sogno nel cassetto, in queste foto si respirano i chilometri fatti, ma anche lo stupore e la forza della natura che, prepotente, non si è lasciata dominare dall’uomo. Persone se ne vedono poche ma lo spirito fiero degli islandesi si respira in molte fotografie, soprattutto quelle fatte a Reykjavík, questi uomini sono riusciti a vivere in simbiosi con la natura, accentuandone le contraddizioni, la forza e i doni, vivendola come un’amica alla pari, qualcuno con cui correre insieme, e non una risorsa da sfruttare e piegare ai propri bisogni, come accade in (quasi) tutto il resto del mondo.

Iceland is one of the countries that those who love photography dream of visiting. Sergio Perez pulled his Icelandic dream out of the drawer and made it come true. He went with a discovery group of Avventure nel Mondo in August 2015 and experienced this hostile and enchanting place by grinding kilometers, step by step. Iceland is the least “densely” populated country in Europe, it is a pure and uncontaminated land where nature has not allowed itself to be bent by man and has maintained its strong and rigid identity, it is a land on the edge of the world , angular, cold and primordial, but at the same time also very fascinating and mysterious.
Iceland is the only emerged part of the Atlantic ridge, it is a solitary and extreme land that has a marked volcanic and geothermal activity, the territory is covered for 10% by glaciers and there are about 200 active volcanoes. The country is a continuous alternation of lava desert, mountains and glaciers, boiling mud pools and gushing geyser heads in which there is little room for man and comfort. Iceland tells the story of the world, Earth, Water, Fire and Ocean coexist in a rebellious and uncontaminated nature, unique in the world.
Sergio immersed himself in this dark, hermetic and wonderful land and, backpacking, he faced lava, ice and snow, he lived his adventure with the camera around his neck to tell about his Iceland and take a small piece with him. Iceland requires effort, patience, determination and a spirit of adaptation, it is a hostile land, with little transport, mostly dirt roads and few structures, which needs to be discovered, little by little, kilometer after kilometer. Like all precious things, it is not easily granted, but it is ready to show itself in all its immense uniqueness to those who know how to love and respect it. Sergio has visited places that tourists only see from afar, places that photographers sometimes neglect in favor of other attractions, he experienced Iceland as a traveler, he let himself be lulled by the wind, bathed in rain, crossed the snowy paths and he filled his eyes with the immensity of the sky and the ocean.
Sergio’s photos tell about his Iceland, his adventure, his dream in the drawer, in these photos you can breathe the kilometers traveled, but also the amazement and the force of nature that, overbearing, has not allowed itself to be dominated by man . There are few people but the proud spirit of the Icelanders can be felt in many photographs, especially those taken in Reykjavík, these men have managed to live in symbiosis with nature, accentuating its contradictions, strength and gifts, living it as a friend to the equal, someone to run with, and not a resource to be exploited and bent to their needs, as happens in (almost) the rest of the world.
